Masor Tenga is a popular and traditional Assamese dish, best enjoyed with steamed rice.

1. Fish – 4 pieces 2. Onions – 2 3. Fresh tomatoes – 4-5 4. Mustard oil – 3 tsp 5. Turmeric powder – 1 tsp 6. Panch phoran – 1/4 tsp 7. Salt – To taste 8. Coriander leaves – For garnish

Ingredients

Coat the fish with 1/2 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, rubbing gently

STEP 1

Heat 2 tbsp oil, fry the fish for 1-2 minutes until lightly browned.

STEP 2

Add panch phoran to the remaining oil and let it crackle.

STEP 3

Fry chopped onions until browned, then add salt, turmeric, and tomatoes. Cook covered for 8-9 minutes

STEP 4

After 8-9 minutes, add 3 cups of warm water, bring to a boil, and adjust salt to taste.

STEP 5

Add fish, boil for 5-6 minutes, then remove from heat.

STEP 6

Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice for a delicious meal.
